I Was There

*I wrote this for a mother who was rejected by her children when she became old, and I dedicate this to all mothers in the same situation.*

I felt you move inside of me. I was there when you took your first breath of fresh air, when you cried your first cry.
I was there through the cholic, nappy-rash and teething pains. I sat up with you at night.
I was there when you said your first word, when you crawled your first crawl.
I was there when you took your first step, watching you grow bit by bit into the beautiful person you are today.
I was there when your knee was scraped, when you were bullied at school, even when you misbehaved. I cheered for you at every concert, sports game and prize-giving.
I was there when you fell in love for the first time, and when your heart was broken.
i’D LOVE TO BE THERE FOR YOU STILL, TO WATCH MY GRANDCHILDREN GROW. I KNOW i AM DIFFICULT AND ECCENTRIC, BUT i STILL LOVE YOU AND MISS YOU.
i ASK ONLY ONE SMALL THING FROM YOU … PLEASE DON’T THROW ME AWAY.
LOVING YOU STILL
YOUR OLD MOTHER
