The Bone Garden

This post is based on a prompt where I have to use the name of my favourite book as the title of my post. Yes, you guessed it – the name of my favourite book is The Bone Garden by Tess Gerritsen. I love Tess Gerritsen period. But if I have to choose her best, this would be it. In fact, when it comes to books, this is my ultimate favourite. It is a story that plays off in two different eras, and the main theme, according to me, is how the lives of those in the latter era, are affected by the story of the people who lived earlier.
While thinking about what I can say about bone gardens as such, I recalled a moment in my growing up years where we walked through the garden of remembrance in Worcester. The teacher read to us the inscriptions on the tombstones in memory of the soldiers that died there.
A graveyard – that’s a bone garden, isn’t it?
My challenge for myself is: When I’m planted in the bone garden, what kind of flower would I be? Would I be a daisy, smell-less and uniform, that grows next to the side of the road? Or will I be a rose or a jasmine, or a lavender, that will make people stop and bend down to inhale my scent and admire my beauty?
How will I be remembered?
